The short version
ProScan works primarily on your device. Documents you scan are stored locally on your phone and are never uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly use a cloud backup feature. We do not sell your data — ever.
Information we collect
We collect only what's necessary to provide the service. Here's a breakdown:

Permissions we request
ProScan requests the following Android permissions. Each is required for a specific feature — we explain exactly why.
You can revoke any permission at any time from Android Settings → Apps → ProScan → Permissions. Revoking camera access will disable scanning; other features will continue to work.
How we use your data
We use the limited data we collect for these purposes only:
- To operate the app — processing scans, applying OCR, generating PDFs, and managing your document library — all on-device.
- To fix bugs — anonymous crash reports help us identify and resolve issues fast.
- To improve features — aggregated, non-personal usage data shows us which features matter most so we can prioritise updates.
- To serve ads (free version) — we use Google AdMob. AdMob may use your advertising ID to show relevant ads. You can opt out through your device's "Opt out of Ads Personalisation" setting.
- To provide support — if you email us, we retain your email and conversation solely to respond to your query.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only in the narrow circumstances below:

If you use optional cloud backup, your encrypted documents are stored with your chosen provider (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) under their own terms. ProScan acts only as a conduit — we do not store copies on our own servers.
Data storage & security
Where your documents live
Scanned files are stored locally in your device's internal storage under /Android/data/com.proscan.app/files/. They are accessible only to ProScan unless you explicitly share or export them.
For crash analytics data that is transmitted, we use:
- HTTPS encryption in transit (TLS 1.3)
- Data minimisation — only the information needed to diagnose the crash is collected
- Automatic deletion of crash logs after 90 days
No security system is perfect. We encourage you to use Android's built-in screen lock to protect access to your device and, by extension, your scanned documents.
Children's privacy
ProScan is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@proscan.app and we will promptly delete it.
In India, we comply with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and do not process the personal data of minors without verifiable parental consent.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights over your data:
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@proscan.app. We will respond within 30 days. For Indian users, these rights are provided under the DPDP Act, 2023.
To opt out of personalised ads, go to Android Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID (Android 12+) or Opt out of Ads Personalisation (Android 11 and below).
Third-party services
ProScan integrates the following third-party SDKs. Each operates under its own privacy policy:

When you use optional cloud backup, the selected service (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive) handles storage under their respective terms. ProScan only requests access scopes necessary for creating and reading ProScan folders — we do not access any other files in your cloud storage.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last revised" date at the top of this page
- Show an in-app notification on the next app launch
- For significant changes, request your explicit acknowledgment before continuing to use the app
Your continued use of ProScan after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. We recommend revisiting this page periodically.
